Press Release: Heroes Among Us

Heroes Among Us
Local Author Honours Heroes in our Community
Edmonton, AB – Local Celebrity Malcolm Azania ( aka author Minister Faust of From The Notebooks of Dr. Brain) is thrilled to volunteer his time to benefit a fundraiser honouring heroes of our community.

This year On October 18th, at the Annual Heroes Dinner several people will be honoured who were nominated by the people of Alberta and will receive awards from the Pet Therapy Society of Northern Alberta. This year’s years winners include two kind Canadian Tire workers who rescued a pair of kittens trapped in a car ( they had to take it apart), a kind woman who opened her heart to rescue 100 starving horses, and two women who tirelessly reach out to connect and educate the public about rescue associations across Alberta with Pet Rescue Magazine.

The Pet Therapy Society of Northern Alberta hosts this event to remind people of the benefits of the human-animal bond, and to raise money to fund its programs such as Paws for a Story which helps children loose their inhibitions to read, a program that is close to Malcolm’s heart. As a former teacher and writer, Malcolm understands how visiting with pets can affect children.

“Kids who have disabilities, who may have been through psychological difficulty can again have empathy by learning to take care of animals, so what the adult world denied them, the world of animals can return to them.”

The Annual Heroes Dinner and Fundraiser is being held on Saturday October 18th, 2008 at 6:00pm at the St. Basils Cultural Centre- 10819-71 avenue Tickets can be purchased by calling 780-413-4682 or by visiting www.pettherapysociety.com
