dealing with the time changes, while it might turn the world of others
upside-down. Whichever category your child falls into, the most important thing
is to maintain continuity. Don’t change your bedtime routines—children pick up
on those changes and ultimately, it will make the transition far more
difficult,” says Whittaker, sleep consultant and CEO of <i>Cheeky Chops</i>. “If you know your child has a particularly difficult
time adjusting to time changes, try planning in advance. Make the bedtime
change incremental, moving it back 15 minutes at a time over the week.”</div>

Changes to our internal clocks, even seemingly minor ones of
an hour, can have a significant impact on mental health. The time change can
also affect older children who find it hard to adjust to a new schedule. For
parents of older kids, Whittaker reminds parents to be patient. “Just because
your children are older, doesn’t mean that they’re instantly able to adjust to
the difference. Think about how much of an impact jet lag has on our bodies as
adults—this is no different.”</div>

Most tales of romance, much like the fairy tales of old, end
on a proverbial high note—with a, 'and they lived happily ever after' kind of
feel. But what really happens after 'The End'? It's a question that romance
author C. Elizabeth thinks goes unanswered far too often. And it's one she
seeks to answer with her latest release, <i>Absolute
Obstruction</i>.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Elizabeth's latest offering is a follow-up to her debut
novel, <i>Absolute Obsession</i>, a story
that chronicled the journey of Rose Garabaldi, whose relationship with a
British film star also explored the question of what happens when fantasies are
manifest into reality. The romance novelist has made a concerted effort with
her <i>Absolute</i> series to avoid the
pitfalls of the genre where characters are used as props, rather than as an
opportunity to develop a relationship with readers.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
"I'm not sure why so many romance authors close the
door on their characters after just one book. If you have well-developed
characters that your readers have really grown to care about, then why just
arbitrarily end their story, wrapping it up in a nice little bow," muses
Elizabeth. "It's not what happens in real life, and a really good romance
novel isn't just about escapism—it's about having readers connect to the parts
of themselves they see expressed on the page."</div>

<strong><span style="font-weight: normal; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold;">Vancouver, B.C</span></strong>- The erotica genre has been catapulted of
late into mainstream discussions and although some literary critics suspect it
may be a short lived trend, authors like Alan Daniels believe attention to the
genre will raise the demand for well written erotic fiction.</div>
<div style="background: white;">

“I am hoping that the increased interest in the
genre opens more doors for writers who have high quality work to share with the
public. For many readers, entering the world of erotica and BDSM is still
taboo, but it shouldn’t be. Erotica can be edgy, intelligent, funny, and
romantic. I believe readers of traditional romance fiction may be ready to step
up to something a little spicier,” says Daniels.</div>

experiences are offset by the adventures of aspiring romance writer Catherine
Mallory Jones, an attractive thrill seeker with a dark sexual past.</div>

<b><span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 11.5pt;">London, ON</span></b><span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 11.5pt;"> September is Childhood Cancer

childhood cancer and its effects on children and families. It focuses on the
trauma of hair loss due to chemotherapy. Ross is hoping that <i>Emma the Mouse Brings Joy to the House</i>

<b>Windsor, ON</b>- A new training program for doctors is
generating interest amongst practitioners of palliative medicine, in the hopes
that it will signal a change in how both society and doctors, deal with death.
The program <span style="font-size: 10.0pt;">(<a href="http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/health/teaching-doctors-a-new-approach-to-the-end-of-life-process/article4416607/">http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/health/teaching-doctors-a-new-approach-to-the-end-of-life-process/article4416607/</a></span>),
is designed to change how the medical community approaches end-of-life
decisions. And it’s a step that palliative medicine expert, Dr. Gordon
Giddings, hopes represents a real desire within the medical community to
reorient its views on palliative care.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
As the director of UWO’s Palliative Medicine Residency
Program, Giddings has dedicated his time and efforts to easing the pain and
suffering of patients during what is likely the most difficult time of their
lives. He recently penned a book, <i>Dying
in the Land of Enchantment: A Doctor’s Journey, </i>describing his intense
personal and professional journey to help change both his own practice, and how
he instructs future doctors.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The challenge of getting families and patients to understand
the core philosophy of palliative care, is one faced frequently by Giddings. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
“Death is part and parcel of our culture; we engender such
incredible fear in people about death that it becomes almost impossible for
people to talk about. It’s absolutely natural to experience grief and
trepidation when it comes to losing someone we love, but that’s why it’s so
very critical that we in the medical profession—who have a duty to act in the
patient’s interest—need to take active steps towards easing the transition from
acute care to the palliative setting. Many people do not realize this, but
palliative care is actually more about living and living well than it is about
dying.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
Giddings hopes his work will help further discussions on
end-of-life care and advance social dialogues on death and dying so that
doctors and families are truly able to make decisions that improve the quality
of life for those who are facing a life-threatening diagnosis.</div>

run-up to this year’s summer Olympics, many experts feared the rise of
rebelling stomachs in the form of stomach flus—the Canadian badminton team, for
example, narrowly recovered from a bad bout just prior to the start of the games.
But according to digestive health expert Van Clayton Powel, stomach bugs aren’t
the only digestive issues Olympic participants need to be concerned about.<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Lucida Sans Unicode'; font-size: 10pt;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Lucida Sans Unicode'; font-size: 10pt;">“These
kinds of events can wreak havoc on your digestive health. And whether you're a
competitor or a spectator, if your digestion isn't working properly, it's
impossible to perform to your potential," says Powel, the author of<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><em>You

<span style="font-family: 'Lucida Sans Unicode'; font-size: 10pt;">"Our

other half of the equation -<span class="apple-converted-space"> </span><em>how</em><span class="apple-converted-space"> </span>to eat to ensure that we actually
digest and absorb the nutrients in our food. And there are some simple things
you can do to keep your digestive system in Olympic shape,” he explains,
offering up some tips for these Summer Games:<o:p></o:p></span><br />
<ul type="disc">
<li class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Lucida Sans Unicode"; font-size: 10.0pt;">While it’s essential to keep
hydrated in hot and humid weather, too much fluid around mealtime can
interfere with digestion: Try giving yourself a 30-minute 'Fluid-free
Zone' before and after you eat.<o:p></o:p></span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Lucida Sans Unicode"; font-size: 10.0pt;">Stress automatically turns off
digestion, so try to minimize stress around mealtimes: Find a comfortable
setting, sit down to eat, and turn off your phone.<o:p></o:p></span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Lucida Sans Unicode"; font-size: 10.0pt;">Chew, chew, chew! You are not
what you eat - you are only what you digest. And chewing your food well is
critical for effective digestion.<o:p></o:p></span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Lucida Sans Unicode"; font-size: 10.0pt;">Snacking between meals can
dramatically slow down digestion of the previous meal. Athletes have a
finely tuned regimen they follow, but anyone with a sensitive stomach
should avoid the temptation to snack your way to the closing ceremonies.<o:p></o:p></span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-family: 'Lucida Sans Unicode'; font-size: 10pt;">So
when you’re cheering on Canada's athletes to Olympic gold this week, make sure

As the end of summer draws closer, parents are seeking ways
to get their children excited about the school days to come. When it comes to
fitting the scholarly bill on a number of fronts, author Graham Clews’ literary
offering, <i>Jessica Jones & the Gates

The novel follows the adventures of Jessica (a little person,
who is <i>almost </i>thirteen’). Having surprisingly
won a contest to “learn through travel,” Jessica finds herself and her family
on their way to the ancient city of York, England. The trip becomes the adventure
of a lifetime as she and her younger brother Jake discover that they have, in
fact, been lured into a dangerous journey through time. </div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
Borne out of the spate of bedtime stories Clews used to tell
his grandchildren, <i>The Gates of Penseron</i>
expertly integrates his early experience of entertaining youngsters with an
expertise as an accomplished author of adult historical fiction. The result is
a novel that follows the tradition of <i>Charlie
and the Chocolate Factory</i>, joining an eclectic cast of characters---many of
them children---who have wandered into the strangle world of<i> Penseron</i> where everyday objects take on
magical-like significance, and where, as in his adult novels from the <i>Eboracvm
</i>series, historical events become relevant to modern readers.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
The idea of making the real world fantastical was a
deliberate choice on Clews’ part, as he explains: “It’s often difficult to get
youngsters interested in history, but when you blend story-telling with
historic facts, rather than just using a text-book or lecture-style format, you
can engage them on a far different level. If young readers are able to identify
with characters from the past and visualize their interaction with historical
events, it becomes so much more exciting for them.”</div>

<i>Jessica Jones &
The Gates of Penseron</i> is perfectly designed to hone the reading interests
of young teens while getting them excited about hitting their history classes

<span lang="EN-US" style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;">Like so many tragedies in history, there is a tendency for the
public to forget that those who experienced them are real people, feeling the
very real impact of those events. Canadians in particular tend to relegate one
of the greatest humanitarian travesties in modern history to a ‘thing of the
past’, thinking of them only as they would faded pictures in a museum: the
residential school tragedy. With his new novel, <i>Blue Saltwater</i>, Canadian author Dan Green is hoping to open up the
door to discussing the still-open wounds left from the residential school
experience. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="EN-US" style="color: #222222; font-family: Arial; font-size: 10.0pt;">While a fictional account, Green compiled real-life cases in an
effort to accurately portray the experiences of the survivors of this dark time
in Canadian history. The gripping account of the young man’s time in a
residential school offers complex characterizations and a high level of
attention to historical detail. Green hopes that by offering a fictionalized
account of this time, readers will be better able to understand just how
harrowing it was for those children to be ripped from their families and
stripped of their culture by abusive authorities.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

they see or hear news stories on the legacy of residential schools. They
wrongly think that it’s a problem that was dealt with, that First Nations
peoples should have ‘moved on’ from it all,” says Green. “What I wanted to do
with <i>Blue Saltwater</i> is to help
readers connect on an emotional level with what these children experienced. We
don’t just tell victims of child abuse to ‘move on’, so why is it considered
acceptable to tell entire cultures to just ‘move on’ when they have
collectively experienced the same thing?” <o:p></o:p></span></div>

revered former presidents of the United States is poised to be the next big box
superhero star this summer. An axe-wielding, vampire-slaying vision of Lincoln
is set to hit the big screen June 22nd, with Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
And author Paul Serup, for one, is welcoming current interest in the important
historical figure.<br />
<br />
As is often the case when real-life hits the big screen, Serup—who meticulously
researched his book <i>Who Killed Abraham Lincoln?</i>—feels there is a chance that the film
will ignite a firestorm of curiosity about the man, his life, and ultimately
his death.<br />
<br />
“It may well provide more inspiration for a new generation of people to dig
deeper into the story of the man who was arguably America’s greatest president.
In the same way that the novel intended to shatter the image we all have of the
man in the stovepipe hat—albeit in a completely fanciful way—my book seeks to
shatter many of the prevailing myths surrounding Lincoln’s assassination.”<br />
<br />
The film, based on a 2010 novel, is actually said to be historically accurate
(outside of its supernatural elements), something that Serup is happy with: “I
don’t think it’s going to be a matter of moviegoers not knowing fiction from
fact—I don’t think anyone actually believes Lincoln used his axe on vampires,”
Serup adds. “But I do think it may create more interest in the 16th President
and inspire people to learn more about the mysteries surrounding his untimely
end.”<br />
<br />
<i>Who Killed Abraham Lincoln?</i> is
published by Salmova Press, and information on Serup and the book are available
at their website:</span><span style="font-family: Georgia; font-size: 11.5pt;"><a href="http://www.salmovapress.com/" target="_blank"><span style="color: #1155cc; mso-bidi-font-family: Arial;">www.salmovapress.com</span></a><br />

comes from terror arising where you least expect it.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>

made logical sense to branch out. I think at the end of the day you should only
